Merb’ys

So I took part in this wonderful idea, as one of nine photogs, that took pictures of members of the Newfoundland Beard and Moustache Club dressing up as Merb’ys, a fundraiser towards Spirit Horse NL. Hasan, member of the club helped organize a calendar to be distributed to help raise money for Erin Gallant’s Spirit Horse.

The Calendar made it to international news. We had the official launch at the Rocket Bakery on November 18, 2017. I volunteered to shoot the people that came to pickup their calendars with their favorite Merb’y.

The Debut

Yeah it’s been a while, I know, I know. Pretty busy for words, just photos.

Last night was my first time attending a Filipino Debut. If you don’t know what that is, google it you will get answers fairly quickly. Basically, to me, it’s a sweet 16 on steroids! Mae was turning 18, she was transitioning from teenager to adulthood. I asked her what a Debut was to her. This is what she said.

“For me debut is not just an 18th birthday celebration. It’s more than that. It’s a celebration of success of a girl who is now turned into a lady as she moved on to the next chapter of her life. A chapter that she’ll learn how to manage time, energy, money and everything. A part where she should be responsible because she’s not a kid anymore.”

When I entered the room, I could not notice how well decorated the place was. We Pinoys really know how to decorate! It was extravagant, the music was loud, the guests were all well dressed, there were speeches, food was amazing, and finally, there were performances, dances by Mae and her friends. It was amazing, and I was honoured to capture the love and tightness of friends and family.

My other photog friends: Aliw, Dexter, and I finished the night off capturing moments at the Geo Centre. Good luck with adulting Mae!
